Maharani Indian Restaurant

To celebrate my acceptance to graduate school, Peter treated me to my choice of restaurants in Madison. I choose Maharani Indian Restaurant since we haven't been to a new place in awhile. On the upside, Maharani is just a few blocks from my apartment and halfway to State Street, making it easy for us to meet up with friends afterward, especially since parking in that neighborhood can be challenging.

I took my friend Liz to Maharani when she visited from Chicago since we both enjoy Indian food and I know it's not at the top of Peter's list. We went for the lunch buffet, which was as delicious as we'd hoped. We were surprised to find some pricer items, typically excluded from the buffet, available, as well as delicious mango sorbet for dessert. Peter and I went for dinner, so the buffet was not an option for us. Considering our eating habits, that's probably for the best. Peter ordered lamb curry and I had beef biryani, plus a glass of merlot. We also shared an order of traditional naan.

Our food was tasty and promptly served, but nothing extraordinary. Peter's lamb was cold, and I expected my biryani to be spicer than it was. We were slighly uncomfortable with the location of our table, mid-way between the lobby and large seating area. We almost felt like we were in the middle of a hallway. Other than that, the evening was mostly unremarkable.
